  • Looking for undergraduate college student job advice for my situation…

Posted by admin on December 31st, 2008 and filed under southwest community college | 3 Comments »

Right now I am working part time at my community college as an AV tech, making 14.5/hr. I will be a full time student this fall and where I will be going to school (GMU) is completely opposite of where I work. The driving is ridiculous. I need to find a new job in Northern Virginia where I will have flexible hours and making at least the same amount of money. My current job is IT related. I am a film & video major and I need to find a job that is suitable for my needs. Any ideas or suggestions?

I drive 40 minutes southwest of where I live to work. I’ll be driving 45 minutes north to go to school. I need a new job between my school and home–one that allows flexible hours for a college student and one that I won’t be making anything less than a married army veteran paying mortgage should be making!! And I WILL NOT DO SALES/MARKETING OR FOOD INDUSTRY!! Otherwise, I’m cursed with spending most of my life in my car driving everywhere.

I’m sorry. I wish that I had a lead for you, but at this point and in this economy, I think you need to recognize that you’re very lucky having the position that you have, in a field related to your industry, making a reasonable salary. I’m not saying that you’re not deserving to have what you want and what you need… I’m sure that you are. But in this economy many people who are just as deserving are either completely out of work or are being relegated to doing things which are distasteful to them, including sales, marketing and food service.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t keep looking for something that is a better commute, but I am saying that you need to recognize the global & national economic realities right now and be grateful for what you have. Because many of us do not have even that right now.

And in the meantime, Best of Luck! I hope that you find the perfect job for you closer to where you need it to be.

Looking for a college/university in Dallas, Texas?

Posted by admin on December 31st, 2008 and filed under dallas community college | 4 Comments »

I'm looking for a college or university in Dallas to attend, preferably one that is NOT a community college. I looked up Baylor and it's 2 hours from me, so that's a no go, any other great universities or colleges to attend?

University of Texas at Dallas or University of North Texas. It is in Denton, but it's only about 40 minutes from Dallas.

Or University of Texas at Arlington, about 15 minutes outside of Dallas.

    Transferring from a community college?

Posted by admin on December 31st, 2008 and filed under illinois community college | 5 Comments »

I am currently a freshman at a community college and plan on transferring to either; Illinois State University, University of Illinois Champaign, or University of Illinois at Chicago, and had a few questions.

Both UIC and ISU say 24 completed hours at the time of the application, well what if I have 13, but plan on taking 16 next semester? Do I have to wait and apply the following fall, or? My GPA is currently a 3.5 and plan on keeping it that way.

I just basically wanted to know even though it says completed should I even consider applying for next fall?

    Thank you

I would call the admissions office and ask, but I suspect that as long as you are enrolled for enough hours to qualify when you apply they should consider you.

My classes at a community college started two weeks ago. i just enrolled into a English course on Saturdays?

Posted by admin on December 31st, 2008 and filed under community college week | 2 Comments »

And I missed the class. So technically i have missed two weeks so far(two classes). Do you think that I can still make it? I can't fail, so I will find a way. But do you think its okay?

It will be up to you. How long is the course? Missing two weeks isn't that bad. Often people come into classes late. I wouldn't miss any more classes though. Ask your prof what you missed, and get caught up on it ASAP or you will just continue to fall behind. YOU CAN DO IT!

can i transfer from a community college in California to a four year university in Washington?

Posted by admin on December 31st, 2008 and filed under southern community college | 1 Comment »

I am now attending a Community college in southern California. Can I transfer from there to a four year university in Washington, for example, University of Washington?

You can, but it is a little harder than transferring in-state. Public universities have an obligation to accept transfer students from the community colleges in their states, so they don’t accept as high a percentage of those who apply from out of state unless applications are down that year.
