Community nursing college vs. four year school?

Posted by admin on January 12th, 2009 and filed under nursing community college | 2 Comments »

Whats the difference in going to a four year school for nursing and going to one of those community schools and getting a degree within a few months?(Besides the time frame of course).

At a community college you can earn your R.N. in two years. This will be an associate’s degree. You will be qualified to work as a nurse after completing this degree and a standardized exam.
There are other programs (at trade schools or community colleges) where you can become a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) or Licensed Professional Nurse (L.P.N.). These jobs usually pay less than positions that require R.N.s.
If you enter a 4-year college for a nursing degree you will earn your Bachelor’s in nursing. This is a more advanced degree and qualifies you for more positions, as well as a higher salary.
You can also pursue other advanced degrees in nursing with a bachelor’s degree, including Certified Nurse Midwifery (C.N.M.), becoming a Nurse Practitioner, or earning a master’s or doctoral degree in nursing. These last two degrees are often earned by people who are interested in supervisory positions or working as nursing educators.

What can you do after getting a pre nursing degree at a community college?

Posted by admin on January 8th, 2009 and filed under nursing community college | 3 Comments »

How does it all work? I am confused about the types of nurses and the degree and pay that goes with them. I am currently taking classes for a pre nursing degree and I plan on transferring to a university. What kind of job can I get with a pre nursing degree?

A prenursing degree allows for you to earn the required course work before entering a BSN program at a university.

Most jobs health-care related will require you to get some sort of certification, at best you could test to become a CNA. Some doctor’s office’s might hire you as receptionist but they usually prefer Medical Assistants.

If you looking to have a job while going to nursing school, I suggest you get certified as CNA, not only will you earn money but you will learn about nursing especially if you work at a hospital and some of that experience will become invaluable during your education.

Which community college to choose for nursing?

Posted by admin on January 4th, 2009 and filed under nursing community college | 3 Comments »

i wanna be an RN in the US, but no nursing background. Now i'm a junior majoring in Eglish in college in Taiwan (another country). Anyone know how i can be an RN? Any community college u recoomand? or other ways? How much is the tuition? How cani apply for that? Thx for helping!

Are you wanting to come to the US to study? If so,it would be a good idea to finish your degree in English there first and when you find a nursing program here, you might not have to repeat all the courses required to become an RN. A community college is a two year degree program and requires completion of about 64 credit hours for graduation. In nursing programs, about 40-50 of those credit hours are nursing related classes. If you only need 40 hours to get the nursing degree it would save you thousands of dollars. In Southwestern Illinois community colleges usually charge about 160 dollars per credit hour for an out of district student and about 250-300 dollars an hour for foreign students so tuition would run you about 10,000 -12,000 dollars for 40 credit hours. Books would probably run another 1000 -2000 dollars. Some vocational colleges that are run for profit charge about 10,000 dollars for each year and possibly more for foreign students so community college is the best way to go. You will have no difficulty finding a job after graduation because your 2 degrees will make you a very desireable candidate. The US is suffering a severe nursing shortage so you will be most welcome.
