    Job question?

Posted by admin on December 27th, 2008 and filed under solano community college | 6 Comments »

Here is a link to the job I have a question about…

    http://www.solano.edu/jobs/display_job.asp?job_id=596

On the JOB ANNOUCEMENT number 4 of the minimum qualifcations states…

"Demonstrated skill in respectful, sensitive and effective communication with people who are diverse in their cultures, ethnicities, language groups, and abilities, and with individuals from all other groups protected from discrimination. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students."

I'm not exactly sure what this means, I realize that I'm probably going to end up having to ask them, but does anyone have an idea of what this could refer to (like volenteer work?)….FYI I've taken a look on most of the jobs offered at the college, and most (if not all) seem to say the same thing.
So how would I demonstrate that I am culturally and politically correct?

Basically they want you to be culturally and politically correct so you don't offend anyone and the college doesn't get sued.

    Getting into a University?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Posted by admin on December 25th, 2008 and filed under solano community college | 4 Comments »

This is a continued question to one I had asked earlier. I go to a community college in California, Solano if that matters. Anyway I heard someone where that if you graduate with an AA or AS degree, that you would actually be GURANTTEED acceptance into A state university.

My questions are, please answer all of them. 1) I shouldn't trip to much if I fail a class because of this (even though I tried my best at it). 2) Is this true. 3) Is this a bad thing (meaning that it seriously does matter what university you attend?). 4) Do my credits from my AS transfer over, so I don’t have to re-do all the classes I took.

    Thank you for your time
thanks for the advice, oh and graft, notice how my posts that have a lot of misspellings in the title, seem to actually GET more answers than the ones that don't…

First, off you should speak to someone at your Community College and look at www.csumentor.com for the requirements. I have transferred from a Community college also in CA.
Also look at www.assit.org to help you with the classes that transfer over.

You must complete something called the IGETC which is the core requirements. You must also have 60 transferable units to be a junior at the state University. Some University's will accept lower division transfers but that is rare.

If you fail a class you must retake it F's don't count. As long as your GPA is 2.0 you will be guaranteed admission to almost any CAL STATE as long as the major is not impacted.

Be sure to complete your English, speach and math before you transfer.

Also your credits do transfer over making you a junior.

    anything else? :-)

    Have a great day

So I need to know if my credits are going to be any good in Hawaii from california??!!Your help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks you!!

    Aloha Aolani.

Are you planning to get an AA degree from one of the Community Colleges (CC)? One thing to keep in mind, courses must be numbered 100+ and you need to have grades of "C" or better for them to transfer.

I realize that you don't want a web link, but try doing a Transfer Credit Search on the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) Admissions and Records site. I've already put in your college. All you need to do is search for the classes you took at Solano CC in the database.

    http://its06.its.hawaii.edu:9287/findCollege.do;jsessionid=38250E9C133E896CD75566D72B231DFA

For the most part, if your courses are equivalent to UHM courses, the CC's will most likely accept it since the CC's have a Transfer Articulation Agreement with UHM. Keep in mind that some of the transfer equivalents may differ slightly from campus to campus.

    Hope this helps!

    Mahalo!

Other ways to find money for school?

Posted by admin on December 19th, 2008 and filed under solano community college | 9 Comments »

Hi, Iam trying to find other ways beside the fafsa to help me get some money for school at Solano community college, If anyone can send me to some links or sites that I can look up for money for school would be greatly appreitated thanks

Join the National Guard… they give 100% tuition and you can go to a better university , you get drill pay ( 250 a month) and you also get the GI bill (380 a month for national guard) and you will get paid active duty pay when you go to Basic training and AIT ( you would be making 1500 a month and they pay for your food and housing while training)) … you can either do it during the summer or you can take one semester off and knock it out… They also offer bonuses up to 15 000 dollars. You can be a proud CITIZEN soldier make friends learn a profession… All you have to do is drill 1 weekend out of the month from 8am-4pm with an hour break for lunch and be ready to help the community….
